Payroll Assistant Job Description

A fast-growing maintenance and construction company providing services to both residential and commercial clients nationwide is seeking a motivated professional to join the team as a Payroll Assistant.

Job Summary

The Payroll Assistant will support payroll operations by ensuring accurate processing, compliance, and maintenance of payroll records.

Key Responsibilities

(Including but not limited to):

  • Enter and maintain accurate payroll and timekeeping data

  • Assist in calculating wages, deductions, and adjustments

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations

  • Maintain up-to-date payroll records

  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and related issues

  • Assist in preparing payroll reports and audits

  • Provide general administrative support to the payroll and HR departments

  • Apply company values—Quality, Teamwork, Pride, Passion, and Integrity—to guide decision-making

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience processing payroll for 100–200 employees

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

  • Basic math proficiency

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Technical proficiency and adaptability

  • Experience with payroll systems such as CMiC, Sage, or similar platforms is a plus

Work Environment
  • 35–40 hour work week

  • Primarily a desk-based role involving prolonged computer use
