National Supply Chain Manager

Location : National role based in Johannesburg

A leading national distributor of FMCG products is seeking an experienced Supply Chain Manager to oversee and enhance performance across its distribution network. This senior leadership role will be responsible for driving operational excellence, cost control, and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple sites.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the National Supply Chain Manager will take full responsibility for managing a national network of distribution depots. The position requires hands-on leadership of depot managers and their teams.

POSITION INFO : Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and monitor performance across all national depots, ensuring operational standards, KPI's, and workflow targets are consistently achieved.
  • Provide strategic direction and performance management for all operational teams, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and within required time-frames.
  • Oversee and resolve staff relations issues, including conflict management, disciplinary procedures, and industrial relations matters.
  • Manage operational budgets encompassing maintenance, transport, materials handling equipment, and related vehicle operating costs.
  • Collaborate with depot managers to coordinate national operational activities and drive alignment across all sites.
  • Develop and implement process improvement and efficiency initiatives to enhance productivity and service delivery.
  • Monitor and reduce stock losses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions in line with company Indicators.
  • Produce regular reports on national operational performance and depot productivity.
  • Conduct ongoing cost reviews, identifying savings opportunities such as national procurement initiatives for consumables and materials.
  • Evaluate and cost new business opportunities to ensure profitability and alignment with operational capacity.
  • Review existing distribution and delivery networks to identify opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric certificate (essential)
  • Degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Management or Logistics Management (Preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in supply chain management, including senior leadership roles
  • Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) – essential
  • Experience within cold storage environments – essential
  • Proven track record of strong leadership, team management, and strategic influence
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cost-efficiency and operational improvement
